Withnail & I Locations

Penrith has now become something of a pilgrimage destination for die-hard Withnail fans - and you can see a series of photos of Penrith through the years in Penrith (Photographic Memories from The Francis Frith Collection).

There are plenty of interesting stories about the other filming locations. For example, the “Accident Black Spot” scene was shot in what was Mrs Thatcher’s constituency – the London Borough of Finchly.  Hence the line “They’re throwing themselves into the road gladly."

See some of the Withnail and I locations here, here and here.

For other movie location, Titan Books publish The Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations Presents London.

Crow Crag (real name: Sleddale Hall) is not in a good state, as you can see from some recent photos on the BBC Cumbria website.
